The theme of this year’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘The Power of Connection’. We thought about the ways in which we connected with our babies, despite the impact on us of messaging from our healthcare authorities about breastfeeding and bonding. Many of us found this messaging harmful. It led us to believe that our breastfeeding struggles and our choice to use formula would impact our bond with our babies. For some of us, this had a serious impact on our mental health.
Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 2 to 8 May 2022. Please watch and share our video on social media. Help us change the narrative around bonding and feeding method and support our campaign for compassion, autonomy and safety in infant feeding policy. Please share our posts on Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtags #MaternalMentalHealthAwarenessWeek, #thepowerofconnection, #maternalmhmatters and #wearethemagic.
